Why Contractors Choose Us
WHY TRIANGLE ROOFERS CHOOSE RED HAWK
Roofing debris is heavy. A single square of asphalt shingles weighs around 250 lbs — and if you’re tearing off multiple layers, that adds up fast. Most roofers get into trouble when they underestimate weight, not volume. Red Hawk helps you get the right size from the start so you don’t eat overage charges at pickup.
We service roofing contractors and homeowners across the Triangle for tear-offs, re-roofs, and full replacement jobs. Our 10-Yard handles most standard residential roofs within the weight limit. Two-layer tear-offs and larger commercial roofs typically need a 20-yard or two hauls. When in doubt, call us — we know roofing loads and will steer you right. Same-day delivery is available for jobs that need a bin fast. We’ll drop it in your driveway with protection boards in place, and schedule pickup around your crew’s completion timeline.

Weight Guide
Roofing Jobs Are a Weight Problem, Not Just a Volume Problem
Asphalt shingles run roughly 250 lbs per square. Layered shingles multiply by number of layers. Add 5–10% for underlayment, nails, and drip edge. Choosing the wrong container means overage charges — or a container that can’t legally leave the yard.
Roofing Weight Calculation Reference
Single-layer asphalt ~250 lbs/sq · Dimensional shingles ~300–400 lbs/sq · Double layer: multiply by number of layers · 10/15Y include 2,000 lbs · 20Y includes 3,000 lbs · 30Y includes 4,000 lbs
Container Size Recommendations by Roof Size
The 10-Yard is best for roofs up to 15 squares (single layer), small residential re-roofs, garage roofs, and shed roofs. The 20-yard handles 15–22 squares for average residential roofs loaded to 80% capacity by weight. The 30-yard suits larger roofs — but remember the 4,000-lb limit means it’s best for lighter shingles or combined with non-roofing debris.
For any roof over 25 squares or any double-layer tear-off, plan for two pulls. Call (919) 823-4295 to schedule.
The Double-Layer Callout Every Roofer Should Know
A single-layer 20-square roof is a manageable ~5,000 lbs. That same roof with two existing layers is ~10,000 lbs — nearly double the limit of our largest container. Layered shingles are the most common cause of roofing overage charges in the industry. Before you book, count your layers. It takes 30 seconds and saves a significant overage charge.
